Dashing & Prancing & Bounding & Slipping

Did you know there’s SNOW here? I saw a few flurries while I was in Michigan in December, but this is the first time in three years I’ve seen actual accumulation and it’s the very first time our puppy, Owen, has seen snow.

(Okay, I know I have a whole blog just for Owen and I didn’t intend to start the new blog with a post about him, but the move has dominated the past couple days.)

Everything about the trip went very smoothly, but of course I didn’t know that until I finally saw him in Chicago. We had a two hour layover in Mexico City — where I was NOT allowed to see him — and I got myself so worked up that I was nearly doubled over in pain. Fortunately the people working for the airline took pity on me and ran all over making sure Owen a) was there, and b) was on the plane.

We arrived in Chicago early Wednesday morning and Owen seemed pretty freaked out. He perked up a little once I brought him outside but kept looking at me like I’d tricked him or something. He gingerly pranced over the snow and seemed a uncertain about the white stuff — until today.

On the way to Michigan I stopped to let Owen run around, but it wasn’t until we got to my parents’ place that he really let loose. He sprinted with the reckless abandonment only puppies have — straight into a snowbank. He froze for a moment, then looked over his shoulder with a panicked look in his eye, but before I could rescue him he wiggled free.

Then did it again.

The driveway is plowed so there wasn’t too much ice, but he did manage to find the same piece over and over again. He slid on his butt, his side, his belly… and kept getting up and doing it again.

I WISH I had the camera so I can show you all how absolutely gleeful he looks. I was worried about how he’d transition from the Mexican heat but aside from a few shivers, he seems to be in his element.

  1. Yay! So glad Owen is enjoying it and that the trip went smoothly ;o) I know you must be going through some mixed emotions, but glad you have your family around you (well some, anyway) and Owen!

Welcome back! Maybe I’ll see ya around…

      • Yep, Freddie is almost exactly Maya’s age 1 year- old! Yes, I’m sure they would love it! They really love other doggies ;o) It would be great to meet you too! Maybe when the weather gets nicer… LOL

Geez, we’re letting just anybody with a pulse and a puppy live here these days. That’s what’s wrong with this country. 🙂

    Glad you’re back, Hooey.

You made it! You’re okay! Owen is smashing into snowbanks! Sounds like a pretty seemless transition for the puppy. I hope you’re as good as he is.
