Aim High

Phew! I needed that break. I hope you all had as nice a long weekend as I did. I went an entire THREE DAYS without turning on my computer, and aside from a farmer’s tan that would put an actual farmer to shame, it was fabulous.

Sunday I played 2-on-2 volleyball with a group of hard-core players, and to say I was nervous going into it would be an understatement. I played quite a bit of volleyball the last year I lived in Chicago, but for those not keeping track, that was over four years ago. And I always played with at least four people on a team. Switching to two-person teams with several years of rust under my belt had me a wee bit anxious.

Despite my worries, I stepped onto the court like I knew what I was doing (well, I DID know what I was doing — it was more a question of if my body would remember what to do) and managed to not completely embarrass myself. I think I exceeded my partner’s expectations (big phew!) and was even invited back the next day. Of course, playing beach volleyball two days in a row means I can’t exactly move right now, but it was totally worth it.

The best part? I proved to myself that despite my fears, once I got over myself it wasn’t nearly as scary as I thought it would be. I met some wonderful people and I’m excited to get to know them better… AND maybe even win a few games.

I miss playing volleyball. I sucked, but it was fun! Glad you had a great weekend. I didn’t turn on my laptop on much either. FTW!

  2. Yay! Glad you had a great time. The boyfriend I had before meeting hubs was a total athlete. All of our dates somehow involved sports of one kind or another. I managed to hold my own against the guys and it was supah fun. Volleyball is so much fun. I’d play it here except.. well… the rain. 🙂

    • YOU DATED SOMEONE BEFORE MR. TURKEY?? O.o

I feel like most of my life has been one sport after another, so it’s always fun when I can find someone else who likes the same. We’ll all have to play!
