Getting to Know Michelle Lynn

Please give a big Hoosblog welcome to Michelle Lynn! And don’t be intimidated by how many books she has! [insert star eyes] Even her bio is a lessen in craft:

Books are an addiction. One I can’t seem to shake. I was the girl who stayed in on a weekend night as a teenager to finish just one more chapter.

Now, I’m the adult lacking in sleep for the very same reason. Making books a career made sense to me. I have two jobs in this life. Taking care of my imaginary friends, testing them every day. And aunting. Both are exhausting and completely exhilarating.

Reading has been such an important part of my life, getting me through illness, disability, and more. Stories make us stronger. More compassionate. We wouldn’t be the same without them.

I first met Michelle after she reviewed The Slope Rules for YA Book Central, and she recommended I join a Facebook group for YA authors that she’s in. (I swear I don’t just like her because she gushes about my books.) Her books are like a punch to the heart, and she’s in the middle of a THREE-BOOK RELEASE.

Golden Curse is the first in the series, Golden Chains releases October 17 (TOMORROW), and Golden Crown releases October 31st.

A curse. A hidden identity. A dangerous love.

Ten-year-old Persinette Basile was forced to flee the palace of Gaule for her life. Now at eighteen, she must find a way to return in order to obey a curse on her family line.

The prince won’t know who she is. Not anymore. But she knows him and what he will do if he discovers her true name.

Made to fight for her life to earn her place, she vows to find a way to break the curse no matter the cost.

To. The. Death.

The words describing the tournament turn Prince Alexandre Durand’s blood to ice.

The last warrior standing will win a spot at his side.

As he’s thrust onto the throne, forbidden magic, dangerous betrayals, and a complicated love could tear his reign apart.

When the secrets begin to unravel, will Alex stay true to the laws and traditions of Gaule or will he give it all up for a woman who deceived him?

Inspired by the Rapunzel story, this is the golden-haired princess as you’ve never seen her before.

Now for the fun stuff!

What’s your favorite genre? Do you read what you write?

Fantasy definitely! I love writing fantasy, but when I’m writing it, I can’t read it. So I’ll read contemporary. Then when I’m writing contemporary, I switch to fantasy. My brain is weird. Lol.

I think that makes sense. I’ve gotten better about it now, but I’m always afraid to read something too similar to what I’m writing for fear I’ll copy that author’s style.

What’s your favorite part about writing?

Creating characters that I begin to care about. I experience so many emotions when writing and it feels like they’re real people and their destinies are in my hands.

Yesssss. And we thank you for it.

What’s the hardest part of writing for you?

About halfway through a book I usually hit a lag and it’s hard to bust through to the second half.

They don’t call it the dreaded middle for nothing. Or maybe that’s just me. But I think a lot of writers struggle with this.

What’s an activity unrelated to writing that you love?

I’m a hockey fanatic. I couldn’t play it, but I love watching it!

Me too! I think it helps being from a cold state.

Who’s your biggest cheerleader?

Tough question. Probably my dad. And a few author friends who keep me going when I don’t think I can.

Those are the best friends to have. <3

Now I’d like to play a fun little game called This or That. As a writer, I find that a lot of interviews ask the same questions, so I always appreciate sharing something new about myself. I’m super excited about these questions—and I hope you enjoy them!
