WvBM: When All You Want to Do is Write

Two months ago I shared the Writer vs. Business Manager struggle of not being able to write when that’s all you want to do. Well, I’m still having that struggle, but now I’ve started my next novel!

When The Edge Rules came out a little over two weeks ago, I thought my life would slow down to a normal pace and I could go back to writing in the morning and reading, etc, in the evening. And while that’s sort of happened, I also booked back-to-back-to-back weekend book events, which is throwing a wrench in the whole “catch up on life” thing.

I’ve technically joined NaNoWriMo this year, but after 11 days I’m barely over 2000 words. AND I’M OKAY WITH THAT. I’m not really sure why my perfectionist, highly competitive self has finally decided to relax, but I told myself that I would take my time with this novel, and so far I am. I’m absolutely loving it and the character development has me very excited. My apologies that it’ll be a while before I share.

But back to the things keeping me from writing. This past weekend, my husband and I went to Traverse City, MI for their children’s book festival, as well as the Moonbeam Children’s Literacy Awards. I met some great children’s authors and I got to give a speech! It snowed and was beautiful and we visited a few breweries and wineries… and I didn’t write at all.

The weekend before that was my book launch party at The Bookman, and next week I’ll be at the Winter Market at the Depot. So I’ll keep telling myself that marketing and selling books is just as important as the actual writing. And after this month I’ll REALLY get on track.

Before you go, I was interviewed on our local radio station, WGHN, the day The Edge Rules came out, and I finally wrestled with YouTube long enough to post the interview. Click the picture below to listen!
